Holy Spirit Catholic Church was established in 1988, and is one of the largest Catholic Churches in the Sioux Falls area. 

In 2022 The Sioux Falls Catholic Diocese embarked on the Set Ablaze process to aid in planning for the future of the Catholic Church in the Sioux Falls Diocese. This helps to ensure adequate priest coverage, access to the sacraments, and involvement of the laity.  More information can be found at https://www.setablazesf.org/. 

Part of Set Ablaze was creating pastorates or groupings of Catholic churches to be led by one pastor, and assisted by parochial vicars. The assignments and groupings were announced in early 2023 and implemented in July of 2023. Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Sioux Falls and St. Dominic Catholic Church in Canton were joined in a pastorate under the leadership of Father James Mason.  After much planning and discussion the Good Shepherd Pastorate was chosen as the name for the pastorate. 

A plan was formulated and a proposal was written and accepted by the Bishops's office to keep the current Mass schedules,  keep separate finance councils, and create a joint pastoral council. 

The Finance Councils and Pastoral Council meet monthly.
